History: The Multicultural Greek Council was founded on October 7, 2004 by three organizations: Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Inc., and Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity, Inc. We are comprised of 8 sororities and 6 fraternities here on campus. The MGC is a unifying body, an umbrella organization, for these organizations. Together, we are united by our aspirations to increase awareness of our respective cultures, to serve the Athens community, and to maintain high academic standards.
Purpose:
-
Foster scholastic achievements and leadership.
-
Promote community service and awareness in the Athens community.
-
Provide resources and support to the members of our multicultural fraternities and sororities.
-
Offer a forum for discussion and to develop strategies regarding issues relevant to the MGC community. MGC serves as a liaison to both the larger Greek community and the University of Georgia as a whole.
Motto: "Unity Through Diversity"
Academics: All members of the council are required to maintain at least a 2.75 GPA.
Philanthropy: Athens Boys & Girls Club, MGC Superhero 5K, Dance Marathon
